The neighborhood has a strong sense of community, with residents who are friendly and welcoming to newcomers. The rich history and culture of the nearby Freeland area is reflected through local events and festivals, such as the Whidbey Island Fair and the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club Salmon Derby. The community is known for its appreciation of art and music.
"We love being able to board our boat and sail over to Port Townsend whenever we please ~Sue and Jeff R.
Freeland is the largest unincorporated but well-established and populated area on Whidbey. Holmes Harbor Gyc is one of Freeland's largest building projects started in the early 2000’s around the Golf Course. The community enjoys the management of a central wastewater system that ends up irrigating the golf course. Nearby side neighborhoods like Chipshot Heights have been built more recently starting in 2021 and the odd one-off new build on the remaining vacant parcels.
While many homes offer private beach access to the Holmes Harbor Bay. One of the most popular beaches in the area is Double Bluff Beach, located just a few miles away. Residents enjoy golfing at the Holmes Harbor Golf Club on the outskirts of the neighborhood and visiting a variety of unique stores. The Freeland Art Studios is a great place to find local handmade pottery, jewelry, and artwork. The Foxtail Farm is a must-visit destination. It is a road-side self service stand with picturesque views and amazingly fresh produce.
